Search for local support

Let us talk about that in an other article

2 Launch event

Plan the Start Event

What is the start event?

The start event is one short hour where you present Serlo and try to acquire as many editors as possible. The agenda is a bit similar to the first meeting. But if the group is to big you can't ask all the people who they are and how they are and so on.

How to organize such an event
  1. Find the speaker (maybe you all three should have a small part of speaking)

  2. Ask the university to grant a room for the event

  3. Maybe bring something to eat or to drink for the visitors

How to announce the start event?

At first you should write the start event on the home page. Than you should create it on facebook. Maybe you could also create flyers advertising this event?

  1. Go to the lectures and present Serlo, the new community and the dates of the start event. Don't forget to ask the prof, whether you are allowed to do so.

  2. Use Facebook University and Course groups and post information about your Start Event with a link

  3. Use the billboard, monitors and so on.

What should you say? Is there some material that could help you with that?

You should make a power point presentation. When we have one we will show it here.

You should look at Simons Interview with The Changer. I will give you a link when it is translated into english.

Also a talk manual will appear here, when it is made.

3 Become an official university group

If you are an official university group you get plenty of benefits. For example in some universities you get a claim on your own office. It is also a question of reputation and visibility to become a university group.

When do you become an official university group?

This question is really difficult. Each university sets different requirements for university groups. You should write these requirements down at the beginning of the growth process and wait until you fullfilled them. Even if you fullfilled them already in the beginning of the growth proccess you should wait till you reached a critical mass of members. Maybe 20? or 30?

How to become an official university group?

In Germany most times AStA or StuPa are responsible for the university groups. In some universities you do not need to register to call you a university group. You should inform yourself, how your university handles this topic.

If there are some requirements to become a university group you should set these requirements on your workplan.

4 Search for local support

One important task of the new community is to find local support.

Maybe you should begin with this topic, after the organization of the new city community is realiable.

To find support you should get to know people, talk about Serlo and to enthuse people with Serlo. You should get information about potential partner and sponsors.

This is a task for all. You need the Pitch Workshop to teach the Community Members how to communicate Serlo in a right way. Start the search for local support with such a pitch (because maybe you also need to learn how to communicate serlo in a good manner).

Concrete negotiations or partnerships should only be made in agreement with the country board.
